Hey all…. Just been a little tired the past 2 days and not on the IPAD…

But, a good 2 days of staying pregnant and Baby Girl Chopp getting bigger and stronger! She is now 25 weeks and 3 days old, which is SO GREAT seeing that Jen ruptured at 23 weeks and 4 days. Every Day is truly a blessing!

So again thanks for all the thoughts and prayers! All of the support is really helping Jen get through the days.

Love,
Evan, Jen, and Baby Girl Chopp

So I have been getting a bunch of questions about how Jen is doing today and the answer is much better… In general, she just didn’t feel very good, but at the end of the day, it was still a GREAT DAY, because Baby Chopp got a day older. Vitals are good and in general, things have calmed down late last night into today. Jen was able to sleep in as well – you would think patients actually get to rest in the hospital, but they do not.

Today has been actually kind of fun (if you can believe that in a hospital). To have a proper GAMEDAY, Stez/AJ/Vanessa, sent us a Zingerman’s Rueben making sandwich kit complete with fresh bread, corned beef, cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, brownies, and more. This was just to bring a little bit of Ann Arbor to us here in the hospital. So cool, thank you for being incredible friends!

So of course we decided to have a tailgate in the hospital…why not?!? There is a conference room 2 doors down from Jen’s room. I brought a skillet, oil, and all the goodies. Of course both sets of parents showed up (in Michigan GameDay gear) and we invited Jen’s roommate Rachel and her family too. Marlene cooked the Ruebens and they were delicious!

The only bad news is obviously the game (losing 31-7 right now)….In the conference room they have old TVs so I had to go to the Allen Park Best Buy and buy two converter boxes to get the game. Have 2 TVs going right now, but I really don’t feel like watching…

But no matter what happens in the game I will be happy, because Baby Chopp is still in Mom and growing!

I know I keep saying it but, please be thankful for everyday…..they are truly precious…. and THANK YOU for all being such great friends!

Love,
Evan, Jen, and Baby Girl Chopp

So just a quick update tonight… I am really trying to take my own advice around every day being a good day…

The good news is that today was the start of week 25 and Baby Chopp is still growing inside her mom This seemed so far away when we checked into the hospital last Wednesday. But it is here and we are so thankful. We also had so many gifts/calls/prayers/emails/etc today that were so thoughtful. More updates on that tomorrow but we really appreciated everything today.

The tough part of today was that Jen just didn’t feel well… She had some more bleeding, felt light headed, had a sore back, in general had a rough day. Hopefully after a good night sleep she will feel better

But today Is a good day. Thank you again for all the prayers… Goodnight

Love
Evan, Jen, and Baby Girl Chopp

I added some more people to the update today (for those added, you should be able to look back and see all details). Again, just hard to reply to all the phone calls and texts (so this makes it a little easier)… BUT KEEP THEM COMING, it helps us get through each day!

Today Baby Girl Chopp is 24 weeks and 6 Days old! So great! Again, keep in mind today that EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY, not only for Jen and the Baby, but for all of us. If Jen and I have learned anything through this process it is that we need to appreciate each day more and never take a single day for granted…. I know we all have “Bad Days”, but really was it a bad day? In most cases when we look back, it wasn’t really that bad…

Just something that we have been talking a lot about so I figured I would pass it on..

Thank you again for all the prayers, we really appreciate it!

Love ,
Evan, Jen, and Baby Girl Chopp

Post #7 – August 29th, 2012 (Our 4th Wedding Anniversary!)

So, today is our 4th Anniversary (wow time flies) and while it might not be our normal Anniversary tradition of traveling around the world, we are just SO HAPPY to be together and to STILL BE PREGNANT! …what a great day our wedding was – just think, we would all be dancing the night away right now.

To help Jen feel a little normal today, I got her a Manicure and Pedicure in the hospital (with the help of Traci L….thanks!). She adopted me a Emperor Penguin Chick from Antarctica….too cute!

We also got another ultrasound today and based on the baby’s measurements, they are guessing she is now up to 1 Pound 8 Ounces… So again EVERY DAY is a blessing, because she continues to get bigger and stronger.

Thank you again for everything each of you have done…Heather and Lauren have sent notes to the hospital….Carp sent flowers, Lauren sent magazines/books/knitting materials, Emily brought lunch/homemade banana bread/books, flowers, etc, and all of the texts and notes really brighten our day. Most of all, thank you for the prayers. God is so good to us.

Love,
Evan, Jen and Baby Girl Chopp

Another milestone today! Today is one week from the rupture, which is allowing Baby Girl Chopp to beat some of the statistics. Of course our child is going to be a stat-breaker; this we are sure! We know she is such a strong baby already. 50% of women go into labor just days after the rupture, and another 25% go into labor within a week. Sunday night was a very rough night with bleeding and not feeling very well, but as the day went on everything improved. Even though this is a roller coaster, each and every day is such a blessing and so special. Please take a moment today to just stop for 5 minutes and be thankful for everything in your life.

Antibiotics continue through tomorrow and Jen gets a new IV tomorrow. The IV must remain in, in a situation that Jen must deliver. Also her blood is taken to ensure there is blood in the bank, in case that is needed as well. We have gotten to know most of the nurses that work here and are truly special people. One that had been off for a few days called in to check on Jen and is back today, so we are building a small family here at Oakwood. Jen’s Doctor is also amazing, a U of M grad for both undergrad and for medical school so of course there is a lot to talk about there. She used to be a server where Jim and Marlene met in Ann Arbor!

The highlight of each day is hearing Baby’s heart beat. She sounds so strong and so healthy. She is also a mover! Being most active at night, when the nurses monitor her she always moves around so much, almost playing games with them to try to find her heart beat.

Thank you for another blessed day!

Yes… So I got a couple calls or texts making sure all was ok… And the answer is YES… Another day to be thankful for! In general a pretty quiet day, which is a great thing

Thank you to Candice, Traci, & Stacey for the flowers! And Lauren for the nice note. But most importantly, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I know they are helping

Goodnight,
Evan, Jen, and Baby Girl Chopp

Another WONDERFUL DAY, because Jen is feeling good and Baby Chopp is a day older! We are truly understanding how EVERY DAY IS A GIFT and you should be thankful for each day.

Over the past couple of days, we have heard so many stories of women who have gone until 34 weeks before having their baby with this condition (PPROM) and have also heard stories of healthy babies who were born prematurely. These stories have helped to keep us strong and extremely hopeful. Keep them coming!

Again, no huge changes today, which is a good thing. Jen heard her heartbeat again today for 30 minutes and it is very strong!

We thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I know they are helping!

Love,
Evan, Jen, and Baby Chopp

Baby Chopp turned 24 weeks today which is GREAT! She is tough, just like her mom and fighting everyday. In the beginning of the 24th week the baby is approximately 12.5 inches (size of a corn) and 1.25 pounds. Many of the major organs are developing right now, so as I continue to say, everyday is a good day.

Jen is doing as good as possible and she heard the baby’s heartbeat this morning for 20 minutes, which made her feel good.

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for all of the calls, texts, flowers, PRAYERS….all of that has made time go by quicker for Jen and I. We really appreciate all of you more than you know.

Love
Jen and Evan

We are hanging in there… You all know Jen and she is incredibly strong…she is staying positive today… Jen and the baby are not currently in harm but there are some concerns… The biggest concern is risk of infection since there is a leak in the amniotic sac…that is why she must stay in the hospital. If she got an infection we would have to deliver. The other concern is her starting to go into labor. So… Like I said earlier…. Everyday is a good day! Thanks again we love you all!

So…since we have the BEST friends ever….that CARE so much… We decided to just start a message board to keep you posted (hard to keep up with all the texts/calls). This one might be long, since it is the first. To start, we are at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Room # 489-1. Our phone number here is 313 436-3959 (this is sometimes easier than cell phone).

Today the baby is 23 weeks and 6 days old….Tomorrow is a BIG DAY, because she turns 24 weeks. Everyday she is getting bigger and stronger! So EVERYDAY is a good day!

Jen had a good night last night and slept as well as possible (it was especially hard, because I couldn’t stay). This morning she got her second steroids shot to help the baby’s lungs/organs develop faster.

So here is the medical scoop. Basically Jen had a rupture in her amniotic sac which causes the amniotic fluid to leak. The baby can continue to grow with the leak, but the main concern is an increased risk of infection (for Jen and Baby). Because of this Jen will more than likely be in the hospital until she delivers. So hopefully she is in the hospital for a VERY long time.

We are both in good spirits and just taking things hour by hour…day by day… We love you all!
